A New Year and Fresh Start

Before diving into new year’s resolutions for your professional life, it is important to begin with ensuring a healthy mindset and physicality in your personal life. I have thought of many professional goals I want to accomplish this year, but before landing on those specific goals, I am first acknowledging I have personal goals that must be set first. So, three personal goals I have set:

1) Go to the gym for at least 30 minutes per day, 3 times per week. This is not necessarily to lose weight, but to keep active and healthy. I have to accept I’m not in my younger years. Even if I incorporate a short workout routine, then I can help ease any stress, tend to my heart and cardiovascular system better, and ensure my strength does not diminish.
2) Pick up a hobby and tend to it at least once a week. I’m not ready to share my hobby, but I did start one a couple months ago and it has been fun. People always ask, “what’s your hobby” or “what do you do for fun or to relax,” but I no longer want to say “read” or ”spend time with friends/family.” Those shouldn’t be hobbies because that should just be part of everyday life. Instead, I have found a hobby that I’m fairly decent at and am taking classes to become even better. We’ll see how those goes then decide if I want to share with the world. 🙂
3) Enjoy my life Friday night through Sunday morning. No, this does not mean what it did when I was 21. This means, not being so trigger quick to respond to work emails that can wait until Sunday afternoon or Monday morning. Those goal is to be intentional about having a better work/life balance.

Cheers to 2024! May your personal goals guide your happiness and well-being.
